Institute of Design

The Institute of Design coordinates and oversees research projects carried out by SWPS University’s teaching-researchers, specializing in various artistic disciplines as well as art conservation and restoration. Members of the Institute include product and communication designers, visual artists and theoreticians specializing in social sciences and humanities, who conduct design-related research. The Institute has the power to grant doctoral and post-doctoral degrees (habilitacja) in the discipline of fine arts and art conservation.

What We do

Members of the Institute of Design include experts in various design-related fields, such as: designers, artists, graphic designers, architects, photographers, exhibition curators, writers and art and design critics and theoreticians. They actively participate in cultural events and contribute to contemporary art and design, while combining art and design with humanities and social sciences, in their approach.

Our publications focus on the latest design practices, the state of contemporary design and its presence in everyday life. We write about the application of new technologies in photography and product design as well as changes in design education occurring in the era of digital revolution. Furthermore, we develop communication design manuals and handbooks.
