Social aspects of migration and multiculturalism

As a researcher, Professor Saba Safdar is interested in sociopsychological issues surrounding migration and intergroup relations in local and global communities. She has been studying resilience, acculturation strategies, and ethnic and national identity of immigrants in and outside Canada.

In her lecture, Prof. Safdar will present sociocultural factors contributing to the adaptation of migrants and refugees and examine ideologies that increase harmonious intergroup relations in plural societies.

The presentation consists of four parts:

  1. a review of the Multidimensional Individual Differences Acculturation (MIDA) model developed by Prof. Safdar
  2. a discourse analysis of the representations of migrants and refugees in the Canadian media
  3. an overview of a study on bias towards immigrants based on media coverage
  4. an examination of multiculturalism as a policy and normative approach in managing diversity in plural societies.

The lecture will be held in English.

Please note that this is a hybrid event. We would love for you to attend in person if you can. However, our online option allows for remote participation.
